Why Decriminalize Sex Work in Oregon – Submit Your Testimony!
House Bill 3088 is scheduled for a judiciary committee hearing on 3/18/21 – this means that certain Oregon Representatives will hear arguments for why to support decriminalization of sex work in Oregon.
We need you to email and tell these legislators why decriminalization will reduce harm and cycles of victimization.
Tell them how decrim will protect people’s consent-rights, allow more victims to seek intervention, and prevent police abuse. Please include your professional status as a harm reduction expert if relevant; this is how ‘respectable’ people can use their privilege for good. I wish I could say it would be sufficient for legislators to hear from sex workers themselves!
Example: “I’m a doctor who understands who decriminalizing sex work will reduce transmission of STIs”
Example: “I’m a social worker who sees why current prostitution laws can trap people in cycles of incarceration or poverty.”
How would safer access to consensual adult touch benefit you?
Example: “I’m a chronic pain sufferer who would benefit by legal, transactional, comforting touch.”
If you do not live in Oregon, please share this or write on behalf of your friends and loved ones who live in Oregon and would benefit from the passage of HB 3088.
Please send finished testimony to the sponsor of HB 3088, Rep.RobNosse@oregonlegislature.gov
Thank you for your help.
